see the good
I, Gail Mardfin, grew up in Connecticut, attended Skidmore College and graduated from Trinity College in Hartford. After moving to New Jersey in 1975, I earned a master’s in studio art from Montclair University. I was head of the art department at Purnell School in Pottersville for many years, teaching a myriad of art courses, before founding PLP Graphic Design Services in 1996, where I am the principal designer. I now dividemy creative time between “pushing paint and pushing pixels.” I have a studio in my home in Bernardsville, NJ and in Lakewood, PA.

I'm a member of the Myhelan Artists’ Network, Somerset Art Association, and the Printmaking Council of New Jersey. I also have two wonderful, young adult children.

For those who feel they must pigeonhole an artist’s “style” – well, sorry. I taught ALL mediums of art for many years and there are so many things I love to do, I refuse to limit myself! I've been moving bits of paper and paint around, assembling collages and working in mixed media, for 30 years or more. I've also enjoyed taking pictures since we got our first 35 mm, also about 30 years ago. And after being married to a painter and teaching painting, I've finally started to BE a painter, working in acrylics. My long-time affinity for outlines seems to have come forth in my latest pleasure, creating stylized acrylic paintings of subject matters that make you feel good, which I've been doing since about 2002.

The link between all these approaches is that I have FUN doing them. My personal aspiration is to live each day with awareness and joy. Showing up in the world as an artist helps fulfill this intent.
